Lifting of a ferry by Bok Seng

Two large mobile cranes from Bok Seng of Singapore (SG) are standing ready on a sunny Saturday morning to lift a heavy ferry into the water.

The largest crane used for this operation is the impressive Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1, the largest telescopic crane in the fleet of Bok Seng.

The crane is configured with its full counterweight of 204 tonnes.

The second crane is the Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1, which is assembled with 105 tonnes of counterweight.

This is the ferry that has to be lifted into the water. It was built at a shipyard belonging to the Bok Seng Group.

The engines of the Scheuerle K25 power packs are started, the operation is about to begin!

The ferry is driven on two 14-axle Scheuerle K25 self-propelled modular transporters. The ferry measures 42.3 metres in length, 11.3 metres in width and 13 metres in height. The total weight of the ferry (excluding transport cradles) is 154.5 tonnes.

With great precision, the ferry is driven from the fabrication hall to the two cranes.

The ferry is positioned between the cranes to be rigged for lifting.

The rigging is tensioned, the lifting operation is now commencing!

Immediately after the cranes start hoisting the ferry, the Scheuerle transporters are driven away.

The LTM 1500-8.1 is lifting a total of 56 tonnes here, while the LTM 1750-9.1 is lifting approximately 114 tonnes.

With careful coordination, the ferry is swung above the water. Both cranes are working with a maximum radius of 16 metres during this lift.

The main boom of the LTM 1500-8.1 is extended to a length of 42.1 metres, while the guyed main boom of the LTM 1750-9.1 is extended to 43.7 metres.

At a working radius of 16 metres for both cranes, the ferry is carefully lowered into the water.

Shortly before the vessel touches the water, it must be officially blessed. After the launching, the ferry will be finished and tested, after which it will be transported to Taiwan.

The operation is successfully completed, once again an impressive lifting project carried out by Bok Seng!
