Two large mobile cranes of Peck Tiong Choon from Singapore (SG) are set up for the installation of a heavy segment for the expansion of the metro network in the east of Singapore. These are the Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 and a new Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1.

This is the first heavy-duty operation for the Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1, here the crane is still being assembled.

The outrigger base of the LTM 1500-8.1 measures 10 x 9.6 metres. The crane is assembled here with 135 tonnes of counterweight.

The outrigger base of the LTM 1750-9.1 measures 12 x 12 metres.

The four-section main boom has a base length of 16.3 metres and extends three times to a maximum length of 52 metres. Here the main boom is extended to a length of 27.2 metres.

The LTM 1750-9.1 was assembled with 144 tonnes of counterweight.

Both cranes are assembled and the segment is being attached to the hooks. The LTM 1500-8.1 has extended the main boom to a length of 26.5 metres. The segment was already on site.

The segment, weighing 198 tonnes, is hanging in the cranes. Each crane lifts half of the weight. Since the client requires a safety factor of at least 1.25 on the segment’s weight, both cranes must be configured to lift approximately 130 tonnes.

The segment is relatively quickly positioned above the bearings. With this load, the LTM 1500-8.1 provides a maximum radius of 10 metres and the LTM 1750-9.1 a maximum radius of 16 metres.

For this project, Peck Tiong Choon was to install several of these types of segments. The lifting operations are always carried out at night, outside the service hours of the existing metro line in the background.

The LTM 1500-8.1 does not yet have the YSL guying system mounted on the crane, which improves the lifting capacity of the crane in this configuration.

Relatively quickly, but very professionally and safely, the segment was set onto the bearings. A very fine lifting job executed by Peck Tiong Choon!
