In 2009, the new headquarters and studio of Endemol in Amsterdam (NL) were built using prefabricated concrete elements. Certain elements were too heavy to be installed with a single crane, therefore a tandem lift was chosen for the installation of a corner element.

The cranes used for this task were the Liebherr LR 1130 and the Liebherr LR 1160, both owned by Zwagerman VMT from Nederhorst den Berg (NL). Both cranes were deployed on this project, but for this lift they were positioned facing each other.

After the 25-tonne element was lifted from the truck, the cranes drove toward each other, keeping the load as low as possible.

The Liebherr LR 1130 (left) was configured with a 32-metre main boom and a 28.7-metre luffing jib. The Liebherr LR 1160 (right) was equipped with a 25.7-metre main boom and a 34.4-metre luffing jib.

Each crane lifted approximately 12.5 tonnes.

The LR 1130 was fitted with 50.9 tonnes of counterweight and the LR 1160 with 50.5 tonnes.

The LR 1160 is a used crane imported from Turkey and was deployed here for the first time in the Netherlands. The undercarriage is equipped with 15 tonnes of central ballast.

The LR 1130 has a total of 20 tonnes of central ballast on the undercarriage.

By installing this element with two cranes, the rental of a large 400-tonne crane could be avoided. A neat and efficiently executed job by Zwagerman VMT!
