This interesting Hydrofraise HF8 was deployed by Bachy Soletanche for the first time on a major project in Singapore (SG). This machine was developed and built at the Soletanche Bachy headquarters in France. This machine has a total weight of approximately 230 tonnes.

This machine was primarily built to construct diaphragm walls with a hydraulic cutter. As standard, this machine can cutter-excavate to a depth of 150 metres and optionally to a depth of 250 metres.

At the rear of the machine, two large drums are mounted; the front drum carries the cable package to control and drive the cutter. The other drum carries the discharge pipe to suction the cutter-excavated material out of the trench. At the rear of the machine, the 565 kW power pack is mounted to drive the complete machine.

The boom is approximately 20 metres long. On top of the boom, an impressive head has been constructed with the sheaves for the cable package and the discharge pipe.

A hoist winch is used to move the cutter in the vertical direction.

The carrier of a Liebherr HS 885 HD served as the base; the carrier is 6.75 metres long and 4.92 metres wide. The cab was also adopted from Liebherr.

The enormous cutter suspended in the machine is used to construct diaphragm walls. The thickness of the cutter can be configured between 0.8 and 1.8 metres and a width between 2.8 and 3.8 metres. The cutter can be rotated hydraulically in relation to the base machine. The cutter was developed by Soletanche Bachy in order to cutter-excavate in very hard rock, up to 200 MPa.

This was the first project for the machine, which can generally be deployed all over the world. Here, the machine was used to construct diaphragm walls to a depth of around 30 metres for a traffic tunnel. A very fine and interesting machine from Bachy Soletanche!
