Scania P 440

Kim Soon Lee

This interesting Scania P 440 rigid truck with heavy lorry crane of Kim Soon Lee from Singapore (SG) was to be deployed for a special lifting job in the city centre.

The truck with 8x4 drive is powered by a Scania DC13, a 12.7-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 324 kW (440 hp). The rear axles are driven, both front axles are steerable. The Fassi F2150 is carried in longitudinal direction, and the jib is carried in the loading bed.

The mounted crane is a Fassi F2150RA.2.28 with eight hydraulic extension sections. The crane can lift a maximum of 30 tonnes at a radius of 4.75 metres; at the maximum radius of 19.4 metres, the crane can still lift 6.5 tonnes.

The Fassi was deployed here with a winch and hook block. The winch has a capacity of 5 tonnes and can lift a maximum of 20 tonnes with four falls of rope. Here, the hook block was configured with three falls of rope and the maximum capacity is 15 tonnes. For this job, that was sufficient.

The outriggers extend to a maximum width of 10.99 metres.

The crane was deployed to lift a Liebherr tower section 24 HC 1000 out of the basement. This tower section is 6.28 metres long in total and weighs 8.6 tonnes.

The tower section was rigged as short as possible because the lifting height was only limited.

The distance between the two floors is only 6.95 metres.

With this load, a radius of approximately 11.5 metres can be achieved. The challenge here was to lift the tower section vertically out of the building.

Subsequently, the tower section was loaded onto a trailer for transport to the storage yard. A fine lifting operation by Kim Soon Lee!
