Scania 143 E 500

Van 't Hek

Van 't Hek from Z.O. Beemster (NL) operated this impressive and very attractive Scania 143 E 500, which was primarily used with a ballast box for pulling a 6-axle trailer. The entire combination was taken over from B.Q. de Ruyter from Amsterdam (NL).

The truck is this attractive Scania 143 E 500 with a 6x4 drivetrain. The truck is powered by a Scania DSC14, a 14-litre 8-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 373 kW (500 hp). The ballast box is removable, allowing the truck to also be used with coupled semi-trailers.

Behind the front axle the battery, a compressed air tank and a spare wheel are mounted. With the ballast box loaded, the truck may weigh a maximum of 27 tonnes.

The cab of the truck is chamfered so that loads can also be transported over the cab.

The truck was built in 1996, and the combination was commissioned by Van 't Hek in 2008. The truck was not in service with Van 't Hek for long; it was later replaced by a 4-axle Volvo FM truck.

On this side the large diesel tank is mounted behind the front axle.

The trailer is just as impressive as the truck. This is a Nooteboom ADBAN-96. ADBAN stands for "Aanhanger Dieplader Bestuurbaar Afneembaar Neusstel" (Trailer Low-loader Operatable Removable Frontpiece). The trailer has six 16-tonne pendulum axles, allowing a maximum gross weight of 96 tonnes with load. The low-loader itself weighs 30.16 tonnes, leaving a payload capacity of 65.84 tonnes.

The load is equally impressive; it is a Woltman TWH 7528-D, a large drilling rig. The load is approximately 23.5 metres long and 3.5 metres wide and high. Without ballast, the Woltman weighs approximately 66 tonnes and can therefore just be transported on this low-loader.

The trailer is approximately 20.4 metres long and 2.8 metres wide, the bed is approximately 8 metres long. All six axles are steerable. The trailer was built in 1995 and was the last of this type to be produced. The ODBAN and ADBAN series were introduced in 1968.

This combination was parked alongside a motorway in the spring of 2009, a very attractive and impressive combination from Van 't Hek!
